TE VAI ARI’I MARATHON: THE SUPER AITO VA’A
Date to be confirmed
Three-day individual outrigger canoe race featuring the top hundred rowers qualified
from the "Te Aito Va'a" race, over distances of 5, 10, 15, 20 km.


September
TAAPUNA PRO/AM SURFING, 08th EDITION
Sep. 27 to October 1, 2010
A surf competition in Taapuna coral reef pass (west coast of Papeete). Amateur and
professional surfers and body-boarders participate.

WORLD TOURISM DAY
September 27, 2010
Each year, GIE Tahiti Tourisme traditionally organizes this project with a theme proposed by
OMT (Organisation Mondiale du Tourisme).

4th ‘MONOI HERE’, WEEK OF MONOI
November 17 - 20, 2010
Sales, conferences, massages, exhibitions, film projections, documentaries at the "Maison
de la Culture" Culture Centre.

TRAIL ROTUI, 3rd EDITION
November 20, 2010
A 15 km marathon around the Rotui's Mountain on Moorea. Available to all athletes (beginners
to professionals).

TATTOONESIA
November 11 to November 14, 2010
An event in Tahiti where Polynesian and foreign tattoo artists comes together and share with
each other and visitors their designs, techniques and materials used in this ancestral art form.

19th HAWAIKI NUI VA’A
Date to be confirmed
In the Leeward Islands. Va'a (canoe racing) is one of the traditional sport of Tahiti. Over 100
canoes will race between the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a and Bora Bora. The finishing
line will be at the Matira Point in Bora Bora.

Traditional Dance Competition at the "Maison de la Culture" cultural center.

NEW YEAR’S DAY
December 30th to January 1st
All of French Polynesia celebrates the New Year. The long-standing tradition is to spend
New Year's Day driving around the islands visiting friends and relatives. Children's games
are held in town on most islands.

TIARE FESTIVAL
Date to be confirmed
Annual contest of floral decoration with the Tahiti national flower "Tiare", at businesses and
public places in Papeete.

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR’S EVE (St Sylvester) CELEBRATIONS
Hotels and restaurants offer special menus and entertainment both days. Merry Christmas!

January 26 – 30. 2010 - FIFO TAHITI 7th EDITION
International Festival of Documentary Film Pacific Tahiti. Screenings, workshops, symposiums,
meetings and idgital encounters at the ‘Maison de la Culture’, "Te Fare Tauhiti Nui", Pomare
boulevard – Papeete

February 13, 2010 - MOOREA MARATHON, 22nd edition
22nd International Marathon held in Temae on the island of Moorea, with over 600 participants.

February 14, 2010 - CHINESE NEW YEAR
The Chinese community of Tahiti celebrates the New Year on the date given by the Chinese horoscope for that particular year. This year is the Year of the Tiger. The program of festivities begin with the official opening ceremony at the Kanti temple of Mamao and is followed by several events including the parade of the lion through all the neighboring shops and finishes with a ball at the Chinese Philanthropic hall. A cultural day is also organized to discover the magic of Chinese folk culture; song, dance, martial arts and culinary arts.

February 26-27, 2010 - TAHITI FESTIVAL GUITARE
Event held at the hotel Le Meridien Tahiti in Punaauia. Artists and well known local musicians as well as the finalists for the 2010 Tahiti Hopes Guitar "The Duets" will perform during these two nights.

March 5, 2010 - MISSIONARIES DAY
A commemorative celebration of the 213th anniversary arrival in Tahiti of the first English Protestant missionaries on March 5, 1797.

March 27-28, 2010 - BILLABONG PRO JR (Preliminaries)
Held in Papeno'o, Tahiti.

March 27 – 28, 2010 - RUTU A PAHU and TAIRI PAUMOTU
Competition of traditional percussions and guitars.
At the ‘Maison de la Culture’, "Te Fare Tauhiti Nui", Pomare boulevard – Papeete

March 29 to April 3, 2010 - TAHITI INTERNATIONAL BILLFISH TOURNAMENT
To be held in Tahiti (Taina Marina, Punaauia) International deep-sea fishing competition preceeding that of Raiatea.

March 30 – April 05, 2010 - FESTIVAL OF THE ‘LÉGENDES OCÉANIENNES’
Performances, activities, workshops, meetings.
At the ‘Maison de la Culture’, "Te Fare Tauhiti Nui", Pomare boulevard – Papeete

April 10, 2010 - "ARU'I HORO", 2nd EDITION
Held on the island of Mo'orea, an evening run on the field of Opunohu with 2 courses:
- 10km for the professional runners
- 5km for the amateurs

TAHITI TAMURE MARATHON, 4th EDITION
A special entertainment day during which amateurs and professionals are invited to participate in a continuous marathon dancing of the Tahiti "Tamure" or "Ori Tahiti", at Place To'ata in Papete.

TAHITI NUI TRIATHLON SERIES
Sporting event of 2 races to choose from:
- Sprint distance: 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running.
- Olympic distance: 1.5km swimming, 40km cycling and 10km running.
Races to begin at Mareto beach nex to Opunohu Bay.

AIR TAHITI NUI VON ZIPPER SURFING TRIALS
Qualifying surf competition in Teahupoo prior to the famous Billabong Pro Surfing.

TIFAIFAI EXHIBITION
Traditional Tahitian Quilt Exhibition at the City Hall in Papeete.

BILLABONG TAHITI PRO SURFING TOURNAMENT
International competition amongst the world's best surfers on Teahupoo's mythical waves of Tahiti's peninsula.

JUNE
DANCE SCHOOLS HEIVA
Traditional Dance Performances at the beginning of the Heiva Festival by several dancing schools at Place Vaiete in Papeete.

HEIVA RIMA’I ARTISANS FESTIVAL
A big handicraft Exhibition by all the local artists in French Polynesia.

TAHITI INTERNATIONAL GOLF OPEN
International event at the 18-hole Olivier Breaud golf course located at Atimaono in Mataiea, Tahiti.

June 20, 2010 - 3rd UKULELE FESTIVAL
Musical contest in Hitia'a-Tahiti, opened to musicians of all levels and held in 2 groups:
- Group of 3 players with a Kaina piece (3mn) and a free style (3mn)
- Solo by one of the players in the group, free style (3mn)

TE AITO VA’A
One-day individual outrigger canoe race. The top 100 qualified rowers will compete in the "Super Aito Va'a".

HEIVA TU’ARO MA’OHI 2010
Traditional sports' competition including javelin throwing, stone lifting, coconut tree climbing and canoe racing in Papeete.

July 8 to July 23, 2010 - HEIVA I TAHITI
The largest annual cultural festival in Tahiti taking place at beautiful To'ata Square in Papeete. In addition to the dance and singing competitions, there are sporting events, cultural demonstrations, cuisine and crafts.

Week of June 26th till end of July 2010 - HEIVA I BORA BORA 

July 11, 2010 - TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN THE TUAMOTU ATOLLS
The Total Solar Eclipse in the remote Southern Pacific Ocean of the Tuamotu atolls will be experienced for approximately 4mn. This exceptional and rare phenomenon will be seen from many islands in Polynesia including Tahiti (more than 98% of totality), but the 100% total eclipse, will be seen in the atolls of Tatakoto, Hikueru, Anaa and Hao.
