MOOREA MARATHON, 23rd edition
February 19, 2011
23rd International Marathon held in Temae on the island of Moorea, with over 600 participants.

CHINESE NEW YEAR
February 3, 2011
The Chinese community of Tahiti celebrates the New Year on the date given by the Chinese
horoscope for that particular year. This year is the Year of the Golden Rabbit. The program of
festivities begin with the official opening ceremony at the Kanti temple of Mamao and is followed by
several events including the parade of the lion through all the neighboring shops and finishes with a
ball at the Chinese Philanthropic hall. A cultural day is also organized to discover the magic of
Chinese folk culture; song, dance, martial arts and culinary arts.

4th TAHITI FESTIVAL GUITARE
February 25-26, 2011
Event held at the hotel Le Meridien Tahiti in Punaauia. Artists and well known local musicians as well
as the finalists for the 2010 Tahiti Hopes Guitar "The Duets" will perform during these two nights.

MISSIONARIES DAY

March 5, 2011
A commemorative celebration of the 214th anniversary arrival in Tahiti of the first English Protestant
missionaries on March 5, 1797.

TAHITI PEARL REGATTA, 8TH EDITION
June 1-5, 2011
International regatta in the Leeward Islands - Bora Bora, Tahaa and Raiatea. This is a 3-stage, 3-day
race. At the finish of each stage, the winners received their trophy for the various categories and at
the end of each day all participants enjoy a dinner with traditional Tahitian entertainment.

TAHITI TOA VA’A
June 11, 2011
A race of 6-paddler outrigger canoes over a course including the towns located between Tautira and
Papeete in Tahiti. The race starts in the morning on the beach of Tautira, a 62-km course along the
east coast, and finishes in the Papeete channel at the end of the day.

INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON
June 18, 2011
Two kilometers swimming, 96km bike and 20km running in Uturoa, Raiatea.

TE AITO VA’A
July 14-16, 2011
One-day individual outrigger canoe race over approximately 10km. The top 100 qualified rowers will
compete in the "Super Aito Va'a".

HEIVA TU’ARO MA’OHI 2011

Traditional sports' competition including javelin throwing, stone lifting, coconut tree climbing and canoe racing in Papeete.

129th HEIVA I TAHITI

The largest annual cultural festival in Tahiti taking place at beautiful To'ata Square in Papeete. In
addition to the dance and singing competitions, there are sporting events, cultural demonstrations,
cuisine and crafts.

HEIVA I BORA BORA

The annual singing, dance and traditional sports competition as well as crafts demonstrations, to be
held at Moto'i Place in Vaitape, Bora Bora.

HEIVA VA’A I TAHITI

Great outrigger canoe racing in Papeete Harbor and its channel between Tahiti and Moorea, featuring nearly 1,500 men and women paddlers, all dressed in traditional pareus and flower head crowns. These top athletes will compete in the junior, senior and veteran categories in 1-paddler, 3-paddler, 6paddler and 16-paddler canoes.

BILLABONG TAHITI PRO SURFING TOURNAMENT

International competition amongst the world's best surfers on Teahupoo's mythical waves of Tahiti's
peninsula.

TE VAI ARI’I MARATHON: THE SUPER AITO VA’A
August 11-13, 2011
Three-day individual outrigger canoe race featuring the top hundred rowers qualified from the "Te Aito Va'a" race, over distances of 5, 10, 15, 20 km.

WORLD TOURISM DAY
September 27, 2011
Each year, GIE Tahiti Tourisme traditionally organizes this project with a theme proposed by OMT
(Organisation Mondiale du Tourisme).

20th HAWAIKI NUI VA’A

In the Leeward Islands. Va'a (canoe racing) is one of the traditional sport of Tahiti. Over 100 canoes
will race between the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a and Bora Bora. The finishing line will be at
the Matira Point in Bora Bora.

TRAIL ROTUI, 4th EDITION

A 15 km marathon around the Rotui's Mountain on Moorea. Available to all athletes (beginners to

TATTOONESIA

An event in Tahiti where Polynesian and foreign tattoo artists comes together and share with each
other and visitors their designs, techniques and materials used in this ancestral art form.

NEW YEAR’S DAY
December 30th to January 1st
All of French Polynesia celebrates the New Year. The long-standing tradition is to spend New Year's
Day driving around the islands visiting friends and relatives. Children's games are held in town on
most islands.

TIARE FESTIVAL
First week of December
Annual contest of floral decoration with the Tahiti national flower "Tiare", at businesses and public
places in Papeete.

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR’S EVE (St Sylvester) CELEBRATIONS
Hotels and restaurants offer special menus and entertainment both days. Merry Christmas!
